Customer Reviews:
What a pathetic song........2005-05-27
This song, "American Tears," is quite literally THE worst song I have ever heard, and I've heard a lot of country songs. Somehow, in every maudlin-patriotic song ever written, the melodies are different but somehow manage to all sound the same. The instrumentation is cheap and corny. But the lyrics... they are the part that makes you want to kill yourself (as I did when I heard this song at a middle-school concert). They are the most cliched, corny, barfy lyrics EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. The usual crap about "I'll always remember the brave soldiers sacrificing themselves for freedom and democracy..." etc. I cannot think of enough negative superlatives to describe them. If you want to contribute to a good cause, send some money to charity.. Only buy this song if
a)you have no musical taste whatsoever, b)you lack a gag reflex, and c)you need a good reason to kill yourself.
P.S.: The middle schoolers also sang several other of Teresa Jennings' songs, most of which had lyrics like "I am a happy child of God." I can assure you they were almost as bad as this. Jennings is evidently either completely untalented or wasting her time on cliched crap like this.
Good Cause.......2004-12-25
'American Tears' is the debut single by Kristi Moore. Although she may not support war, Moore wanted to show her support for the troops overseas. "What's the point of protesting war when we're already in it." Moore first heard 'American Tears' through a Karaoke show and decided to contact the Songwriter for permission to use it. The intent of releasing this single is to raise money "for families of fallen soldiers in Operation Iraqi Freedom."
This single doesn't give the phenomenal performance I was expecting. I think a good effort was given and Moore's voice isn't atrocious but there's something missing. I don't doubt she feels strongly for the cause but I've heard a few of Moore's other songs and they had more feeling than this debut release. I do think that the concept puts too much pressure on the artist for a debut. While her heart is in the right place, this was something perhaps best undertaken by someone more recognizable and established.
The most noteworthy aspect is of course the lyrics, written by Teresa Jennings. They depict the usual American bravado and patriotism but it isn't likely to replace any of the other near-anthems that have ridden the radio waves.
The CD is available through Moore's website for $5.99 plus shipping and taxes. For that price it's hard to debunk something that is going for a good cause. While visiting her website to make your contribution to the troops, be sure to check out the music clips from her other album, "Journey Through Love."
