5 out of 5 stars Get the Original Mistletoe Band !.......2004-12-23

Yeahh yeahh yeahh ! This is awful, wow ! I'm so glad to report
that I ordered this CD from an amazon.de (German) Marketplace seller
(from u.k. :-) ). I was surprised to death finally
held in my hands the "Xmas Disco Party" CD with all of the
20 tracks of the Mistletoe Disco Band. !
It's from a british Label ( Castle Music Ltd. ).
These 20 tracks just blow my brain out !! Some of the best
I've ever heared. Try to get this ! Forget Boris Midnight
(or whatever), this is the one you need to have ! Forget Salsoul
Christmas Nuggets (or whatever - I was big fan of - before ;-) ).
My highly recomended seller was andy@avatarmusic.co.uk .
Woaah this just blows me down! Hi - speed Disco Xmas Xtasy.
I'm done !

4 out of 5 stars Finally!!!!!.......2004-12-18

I have spent three days looking for this. I grew up with this christmas music. We WOULD NOT hang chritmas lights, decorate the tree, open gifts, etc... without first listening to this music. My family's copy is entitled 'Tis the Night to Disco by the Disco Belles but all searches, incuding contacting CBS and Columbia proved fruitless. Obviously there have been several incarnations of these songs....this CD has acouple in the form that i am accustomed to, a couple with lyrics that i otherwise know as instrumental and Last christmas, which I hate and is the only reason I could not give it 5 stars. I have to say that i cheered pretty loudly when I played the first clip out of curiosity and recognized by beloved songs! My family will be thrilled because that old tape, despite using copies to preserve it, is getting mighty brittle.

5 out of 5 stars Mistletoe Disco Band tracks great.......2003-11-22

Fun CD---I echo the other commentaries in that it would be better if this had just the Mistletoe Disco Band tracks. But it's still a lot of fun, especially when mixed in randomly at parties.

3 out of 5 stars Long Live The Mistletoe Disco Band!!.......2003-10-18

The cuts on this release are a mixed bag, but it includes the seminal Mistletoe Disco Band with four of their greatest efforts. Like another reviewer here, I enjoyed their original vinyl releases, particularly their first--the cover artwork, featuring a fetching young lady hanging little disco balls on her Christmas tree, is truly sublime. Sadly, those originals disappeared as time went on. Years later I discovered another CD with the title "Christmas Party Dancing," and while it had no indicated artist, I somehow hoped I had again stumbled across the MDB. The disc was, after all, decorated with a more modern lass wearing only a Santa outfit and a come-hither look as she plucks at a Fender P-Bass. On the back I found a track list which appeared to match those of my lost treasures, so, taking a bold $3, I purchased it, taking it home, where I was greatly pleased to find it was in fact my heroes, The Mistletoe Disco Band. With any luck, others will discover this diamond and share in the joy.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I originally thought.......2003-01-07

When I found this CD and listened to the audio samples, I thought I was buying a collection of Christmas dance recordings by various artists. My main interest was in finding music by the Mistletoe Disco Band (also known as the Mistletoe Dance Band), which performs six of the tracks on this CD. I don't know who performs the rest.

In the late 1970s, the MDB released an album titled Christmas Disco on Mistletoe Records. I had this record when I was a kid in the very early '80s and loved all the music on it, so much so that, when I found out that the label had released a follow-up sometime around 1980 or '81, titled More Christmas Disco, I bought and enjoyed that record too.

I've somehow managed to find the music from More Christmas Disco on CD, but I'd love as well to find all the tracks from the first album. The first album had a greater sense of fun to it, and the tracks so blatantly stole sounds from other disco records that had already made their mark on history that you couldn't help but want to dance to them.

This CD, Disco Christmas Party, does contain four of the tracks from that first Christmas Disco album: "Winter Wonderland," "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Silver Bells" and "Jingle Bells." They're all great to hear, and hearing them has brought a flood of memories back to me. However, this is a DJ's CD, and it has all the tracks in a continuous mix, meaning there are no clear stops, starts or fades for each track except for the first and the last. So, if anyone else out there just happens to be looking for MDB music from the late '70s, you won't find it the way you want it on this DJ's Choice CD.

Still, it's great to hear these tracks again. You can say all you want about the artistic and emotional merits of disco or the lack thereof. But my guess is the aim of the Christmas music was purely fun, as opposed to secular or religious significance. And fun was what I had listening to this stuff growing up. I'm glad to have at least of piece of that now.

If anyone knows how to get a hold of digital forms of all the tracks from that original Christmas Disco album (which I believe was released in 1978), please let me know. There may be a concurrent release of this very same music on an old Pickwick LP titled Disco Noel credited to a group called Mirror Image. I don't think Mirror Image, which had its own Christmas disco collection called Yuletide Disco, is the artist, just a miscredited one. If anyone can help, I'd be forever grateful.
