From little things big things grow.......2004-05-06
This 1998 CD album collects eleven pre-fame recordings made by Oklahoma juniors Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson in 1995-96 some time before their talents were finally spotted by a major-label talent scout and they were signed to Mercury Records. Before their mega-successful 1997 breakout with the Middle Of Nowhere album, the Hanson brothers had been singing together for their whole lives and had performed publicly for 5 years in their hometown Tulsa,OK. This record has good harmonies , some poppy songs and some dynamic boy singing that helped Hanson win a contract that led to their future success. Early versions of Middle Of Nowhere tracks Thinking Of You, MmmBop and the beautiful piano ballad With You In Your Dreams are all good; so too is the guitar-based pop song River , the childrens' tale Soldier and the teen-pop of Sometimes. Overall it's good and I've given it 4 stars because I am a big fan of these guys. These tunes were NOT demo recordings, but independently-recorded songs the young musicians wrote themselves and recorded in a studio in Tulsa. Now, eight years later in 2004, it is interesting that Hanson are again an independent band, though this time around they are in control of their own destiny as a band, have formed thir own record company (incidentally called 3CG after 3 Car Garage) and have grown up to be splendid artists. But here are their first recordings. From little things...
The day has come to figure out that hanson has talent.......2004-01-15
I like this cd it's a good cd to add to their first because it shows that they have talent!!! i love sometimes stories and two tears!! what you have to remember is that they are younger, so they sound a little different but they sing so well for such a young age!! i gave it four stars because the songs don't sound as smooth ,which it isn't because it was their demo songs to get them signed ,i just MON because it's perfected to sound great!! -mg
Plast From the Past.......2003-09-23
This album I will admit is not my favorite. But I enjoy hearing how people that young can do so much. The talent they possessed at such a young age was incredible! The songs that were cut from Middle of Nowhere were great to hear.
Fun Little CD.......2003-05-04
This is a fun little CD that gives you a peak into Hanson's earlier recordings of songs that have been released, and some songs that have never before been released! It includes the ever popular MMMBop (of course!) and other great songs on their "Middle Of Nowhere" CD in their early stages. This is a fun CD to listen to. I like the whole idea of the "this is us before we were famous" thing. I wish other artists would release a CD of their earliest work, the songs that they recorded before their careers took off. Listening to Mariah Carey's demo-tape would be really fun! It's not my favorite CD, though, because it's a bit slow paced. I prefer "Middle Of Nowhere". But, I still like the sound of their early songs! They have some great songs on here. Great purchase right here! Enjoy!
True Fanson's Paradise, Not For NonFans.......2002-01-07
This CD is exceptional for the ages these boys were at the time. All of their CDs are, but if you found "Mmmbop" to be whiny and repetitive and bubblegummy, do not buy this CD looking for refuge from this type of sound, because it is even more noticeably present on this CD and yes, my friend, there is another version of THE song, with three "m"s and one "bop", just like on the "Middle of Nowhere" CD, but even younger and more high-pitched. The CD is overall quite impressive though, especially if you're a fan, but even if you're not, you have to give them a little credit for writing these songs. "Tin Soldier", an adaptation of the famous children's story of the one-legged tin soldier and the ballerina is so sweet it will give you cavities, but ingenious nonetheless, and not without musical merit as well. It was originally released in Tulsa as an Indie CD and there are still real copies of it, with the original title "Mmmbop" floating around on ebay from time to time. This is probably the closest thing anybody with a 4 or 5 figure income without a savings account will ever get to owning the original though. Needless to say, I have it. *smile* Enjoy.
