Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2004-10-30

I purchased this album because I wanted to hear Louise Pitre's versions of the two ABBA songs, "Slipping Through my Fingers" and "The Winner Takes it All" (Pitre played Donna in the Broadway version of "Mamma Mia," which they unfortunately didn't make a cast recording of. She was also in the 1991 French revival of Les Miserables as Fantine). Fantastic! And her other songs, which display a wide variety of vocal talent, are also pleasurable to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars A Star Is Born!.......2002-12-21

I, too, bought this cd after seeing Louise Pitre perfom in "Mamma Mia!" - and I am so thrilled I did. It gave me a chance to discover her talent and now I am forever hooked.

Louise has a powerful, sensual and unique voice, which works well both in ballads and more jazzy numbers. The entire cd is a delight, every song special in its own way, and the end result is pure magic. It's a mix of styles, yes, but they all fit in very nicely. You get a sense that she is as diverse as her choice of songs, and therefore, very interesting - This is a performer who is sure of herself and knows what she is worth. Now we know as well.

A few highlights- Her version of "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody", which is an instant classic, simply wipes the floor with all the previous recordings (yes, even Garland's).
"Limelight" gets a heartfelt and heartbreaking treatment, giving us a glimpse into a perfromer's life which is extremely effective, coming from a mature, professional voice such as hers. The two ABBA songs are sung brilliantly, with a lot of raw emotion and a touch of the French Chanson, not to mention the French version of "The Winner Takes It All", which sounds like the song should have sounded all along. The songs in her native French are charming, especially the ones she composed herself, and definately made me want to learn the language! :)

I highly recommend this cd. You will surely be as enchanted as I was.

3 out of 5 stars Not a winner by a long shot........2002-10-23

I actually ordered this, just because it's the only CD where you can get Ms. Pitre's version of "The Winner Takes it All" from Mamma, which is definitive, for the sheer lack of any other. I was quite taken by her performance in Mamma, so I thought that I had to have her version by hook or by crook. Well, I was actually quite disappointed with the way it was recorded in this album. In retrospect, I think I only enjoyd that song in the show, because it was the only aria, and I never even thought it was an Abba piece. The french version of the song is interesting, but I just wonder where it would be performed as part of Mamma - definitely not in Paris, because we all know how they can't swallow musicals - especially the commercial success, but very plotless, Mamma. The rest of the songs in the album are quite good, but I don't see. feel, or hear a diva here.

5 out of 5 stars Finally Miss Louise Pitre.......2002-03-08

Being from Canada I had the good fortune of seeing Louise perform before her American breakout role in Mama Mia. I remember seeing her in the Francophone version of Les Miserable in Montreal and being dazzled by her performance.

It is the listeners good fortune that we get to hear some songs in French as an added bonus. Hopefully it will give her some crossover appeal to Anglo and Francophone audience.

Her choice of material is very good and takes advantage of her vocal range and dynamics of song interpretation. She wisely chosens some ABBA songs for this recording to tie in with her appearance on Broadway.

An overall very satisfying and entertaining recording that I thankfully can recommend for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars She's Perfect!.......2002-02-24

I didn't know who Louise Pitre was, except that she is the new star of Broadway's MAMMA MIA. I saw the show in New York and fell in love with it. It was nice to leave the theatre in such a positive mood. Louise Pitre's songs are showstoppers. I was pleased to read in her Playbill bio that she has a solo CD. The day I came home from NY, I ordered it. She's just as amazing on the album as she was on stage.
