Customer Reviews:
Very groovy CD.......2007-02-12
My favorite track on this CD is 'Silent Night'. It is the only version that I LOVE. The rest of the CD is cool too. It's nice to pop this in the player at Christmas time and sing along. Have fun!
GF's redo's have "acappella with an attitude"... the best!.......2002-08-01
If you like trying new things, try "More than a Story"! Go Fish has done it again... made a CD with all the "acappella with an attitude" they've got in their souls. Not only does it bring new perspective to the traditional songs we've known forever, but their own "Zachariah's Song" gives you another awesome viewpoint on the Christmas Story. The song "More than a Story" really gives you something to think about, though it's composed of only one chorus and the reading of the Christmas Story. It reminds you that the story of Christ's birth must be much more than a story that we read each year. "I wanna live my life so everyone can see/ That it's more than a story to me". Go Fish's acappella gives the Christmas songs a purity never heard before. And, as the guys say at the end of "Angels We Have Heard On High", "You're right, this was fun."
Awewome!.......2002-01-07
Everything about this CD is awesome. The music, the message, the harmonies, etc.
This is Gospel?.......2001-12-15
This isn't just Gospel, this is vocal jazz as good as Manhattan Transfer! My wife and I bought this CD after seeing them in concert last night. Not only do their voices taste like honey to my ears, they put on a show that is fun and powerful. May the Lord bless them and their ministry!
My favorite christmas song has always been O, Holy Night. Unlike a previous reviewer, I love the alterations they have made to old Christmas standards. They have added some Jazz and bounce to some great songs.
This, I hope will be only the first of their Christmas CD's.
Wonderful harmonies - great songs!.......2001-11-21
If you are a Go Fish fan, you'll definitely want this Christmas album! The first track, Silent Night, gets some radio airplay, and it deserves it - it's a WONDERFUL rendition!
I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 for a couple of reasons - one is that it's totally acapella and I guess I'm quickly getting used to Go Fish's new release "Infectious", which came out just recently. Infectious is a MUST-HAVE album and I enjoyed the addition of instruments to the wonderful harmonies of the Go Fish guys.
The other thing is that I don't like what they did with all the traditional Christmas carols. I realize that you have to do something different with them, but I feel that they went a bit far on a couple of the songs on here (Away in the Manger, Angels We Have Heard on High, O Holy Night).
That said, I really love what they did with Silent Night and I really enjoyed their version of "Mary Did You Know" - that has to be one of my favorite Christmas songs. And they had a couple of original songs - Zechariah's Song, which presents the Christmas story from another point of view. The title song "More than a Story" has music interspersed with a reading of the Christmas story from the Bible.
There's a great bonus track - The Grinch Song. Make sure you listen to the WHOLE song; there's quite a long interval of silence after you think the song is over. Then there's more!
You might want to check out my other reviews of Christian music and books. I've reviewed several Christmas albums and I've made a Listmania list about Christmas music too.
