This is not the J. Geils Band ..........2003-03-24

I don't why that person thought so, (maybe Amazon's posting that it was J. Geils Band) but they did. This is really Bill Haley at the beginning of his career recording western swing numbers in 1947 and 1948 as heard in "Behind the Eight Ball," a song about being in an uncomfortable situation with your wife, and "Foolish Questions," a great song about the stupid statements people sometimes make. Then there are the songs that were recorded in 1951, 1952 and 1953, songs that appear on the CD "Rock the Joint!" (in much better sound quality.) There is "Tearstains On My Heart," "Jukebox Cannonball," "Sundown Boogie," "Icy Heart," "Rocking Chair On the Moon," "Crazy Man, Crazy," "Live It Up," "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" and "Straight Jacket." All these have poor sound quality compared to the great quality there appear in on other releases like "Hillbilly Haley" and "Rock the Joint!" We get a song in good quality, though. It is the 1960 classic "Chick Safari," apparently a different version than the one that appears on the "Warner Brothers Years and More" box set. By 1960, Bill Haley and the Comets had been through their success ride in the 1950s on Decca Records, they appeared in movies, on television countless times, had many hit records and were on tour a lot, especially in 1956. The only problem is the sound quality, otherwise I'd say that this is a great disc. The 1951, 1952 and 1953 tracks are a mix of country songs and some of the first ever rock and roll songs, though the classics "Rocket 88" and "Rock the Joint" are missing.

a great album from a great band, not the best but closer..........1998-09-02

I knew this album in 1983, from a friend of mine. First time I hear it I think : "What strange group - I don't like it", but I hear it again, and again and again...so I loved. With great songs like Centerfold, Freeze Frame, but Angel in Blue talks to my heart until today. It's a sad song, but unforgetable. Peter Wolf has a sensational perform in this album. If you don't like in the first time. Hear it again, I'm sure that you will hear a great album.
