Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Read my other reviews.......2006-06-08

Read my other reviews of the songs on these albums. One of the things i like about this album is Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla. I think it is a cool song and a cool name for a song and shouldn't have been dismissed as a single. She Doesn't Live here anymore should have been on here and so should Fireworks. And maybe even a couple off the first album. Stupid is a cool song but better ont he Gessle album have to agree.

5 out of 5 stars A good investment.......2006-03-20

This is one of their best discs ever. Although there are more pop songs that aren't on this disc, I'm sure they tried to cram as much as they could to make it as poppy as possible.

4 out of 5 stars Not as stellar as "The Ballad Hits," but still good.......2005-11-09

It's hard to believe you could have a sophomore slump with a second greatest hits album (1995's "Don't Bore Us" not withstanding), but Sweden's super duo stumbles into that territory here. Or maybe their pop stuff just wasn't as memorable as the material from 2002's "The Ballad Hits." Whatever the case, "The Pop Hits" isn't perfect, but it's still worth an hour in your CD player.

Note that statement -- it's worth an hour. The "boxed" edition features an extra four-song EP that must be an attempt to pad the length of the overall product to about 80 minutes. While the songs -- mostly B sides -- are passable ("Stupid" is a keeper), they don't really fit with the main package. Three of these tunes are fairly mellow (and not really memorable) and would have worked better as extra cuts to the "Ballads" collection.

That said, most of the duo's actual pop hits appear on the main disk, including all the stuff that the U.S. crowd would know ("The Look," "Dressed for Success," "Dangerous, "Joyride," etc.).
Be prepared for the Per Gessle show, however -- while Marie Fredriksson dominated the ballads disk, songwriter Per sings or shares lead on 9 of the 15 tracks here (and 3 of 4 on the bonus E.P.). This includes the two new songs, which are decent but not first-single worthy.

"Opportunity Nox," in particular, is a coin flip. While it's catchy (and blessed with the usual odd, cliche-ridden lyrics Per is famous for), it's also a carbon copy of "Keep Me Waiting" from 1993's "Tourism" album. If you liked that song, you'll like this one.

"Little Miss Sorrow" borrows heavily from the late Beatles/late 1960s sound, which works fine. On most albums, it's worthy filler or a No. 4 or 5 single at best.

Of course, there's always the "What if they would have included this song?" argument, which can be made much more heavily here than on "The Ballad Hits." Maybe that's because Roxette had so many catchy, upbeat tracks in the 1990s. My personal choices as missing cuts from this collection are "Chances" from "Look Sharp!" and "She Doesn't Live Here Anymore" from (ironically) "Don't Bore Us," the duo's 1995 greatest hits package.

Still -- not many acts can pull off two greatest hits albums in two years and still have leftovers for a third. Given all their accomplishments, Roxette's joyride has been a good one, indeed.

5 out of 5 stars The very best of what's-their-name-again.......2005-05-27

Roxette is one of those groups that deservedly get lots of airplay, with their infectious hooks and catchy pop songs. It's a safe bet that you know most of their hit singles, even if you don't know the songs by name or who sings them.

The chameleon of pop music, Roxette's music infiltrates your sub-conscious, and whenever there's a familiar pop song buzzing around in your head, and you just can't place it, it's probably them.

The US version of this album from Amazon.com lists 15 songs, and notes below that there are four bonus tracks. The UK album available on Amazon UK only lists 11 songs, but I can't be sure if this is a typo or if it's missing a few tracks.

Roxette is made up of guitarist Per Gessie and vocalist Marie Fredriksson, who came together in the late eighties to make beautiful music together. Many albums and hit singles later, they're still with us, and even though this is a 1993 album, it still sounds as perky as ever.

For pop entertainment how can you beat lyrics such as:

"Walking like a man, hitting like a hammer, she's a juvenile scam, never was a quitter, tasty like a raindrop, she's got the look."

Trust me, you know more than 75% of the songs on this album, and after this crash course in Roxette 101, you won't forget them again.

5 out of 5 stars POPortunity Nox.......2003-11-20

The compilation album I like to call The Sequel. Its "younger sister", The Ballad Hits was/is very successful when it came out in 2002. The Pop Hits is right up there with it. When The Ballad Hits came out I predicted this one coming...because I don't know how anyone would get away with releasing a compilation album without their first #1 single, "The Look".

Just like The Ballad Hits, this album also features 2 new tracks, 13 of their up-tempo singes from 1988 to 2001, and on some versions (for a limited time) a bonus 4-track EP with B-sides and previously unreleased songs. Its only single outtake is the opening track, "Opportunity Nox". Just like "A Thing About You", it is the only one to be released from it.

This album is absolutely ideal for parties - especially "retro" themed ones (in reference to the first half of the album). Another 5-star album from a 5-star band. Grab yourself a copy today! :)
