Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A great atmospheric album.......2005-09-11

Nomadic Impressions is an album that has yet to be equalled in this genre. It's an Arabic electronic mix that sounds fantastic. After a few listens, the album becomes an easy listen that flows effortlessly. My favorite track on this album is "Citadels & Minarets" with it's slight pulsing beat and the traditional Arabic strings to back it up. All of the tracks are full songs with ups and downs, not just a repeated beat like in most electronic music. A great relaxing listen and a nice addition to any collection.

3 out of 5 stars Where time stands still.......2004-01-13

While nothing really shakes and grabs you on this disc as being outstanding it is pleasant enough and leaves you satisfied. The music is on the light electronica side, leaning mostly towards ambient on a magic carpet ride. One complaint I have is that some of the songs stringed together drone on...and on.....and on. The opening track is a perfect example and is entitled "Into the Great Valley" that ends and goes into "Haj"(sacred journey). These two songs combine for about 10 minutes and after about five or six minutes you feel like you have heard enough of both songs already; it just repeats itself. The repitition does get a bit annoying but if you are busy doing something else it is not has noticeable. The Eastern melodies worked into the elctronica are nothing Earth shattering but more like background elements. Mostly on the slow dreamy side, the songs are a perfect companion to a good book; it won't interfere with your consentration but rather it opens up your sensory passages. "Citadels and Minarets" opens like the door of a space craft on a distant planet and inches along much like a camera expanding the view for the audience to reveal distant distorted images bent by the rays of the sun. All the songs have a distant memory feel . "Full Moon Dervish" is like an army of Mercedes Benz, Hummvies and camels racing across the desert from different points to converge on one spot only to behold a mirage of "White Dunes" which is the minimalist ending to this ambient Middle Eastern eletronic sountrack. Recommended for late night reading or ambient music fans.

4 out of 5 stars Good electro-world music.......2002-10-10

Open Canvas creates a nice blend of electronic ambience with middle-eastern influences with Nomadic Impressions. The tracks are all good, none of them really jump out at you but you can't skip any of them, either. The violence of Dark Sun contrasts strongly with the near-sleepiness of Muezzin Meditation. When I listen to this CD, I find it is often over before I know it - the tracks fit together so well. Nothing about this CD is amazing or other-worldly, but it's solid.

5 out of 5 stars Ambient Egypt.......2001-05-06

What can I say? This is one of the most beautiful cds I've ever heard. "Nomadic Impressions" is an ethereal and enchanting album that blends subtle mid-eastern/egyptian influences with dreamy, celestial yet somewhat dark ambient, electronic soundscapes. I feel I am transported to the Egyptian desert on a starry night everytime I play this cd. "Nile (lifewaters)" is the most beautiful and relaxing track on here that makes me feel like I'm floating away to a mystical and pure land. Another cd which I've recently bought who uses a similar combination is Banco de Gaia's album "Igizeh" although it is much more dance driven, yet just as wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars a good listen.......2001-02-14

i first heard "haj-sacred journey" one of the selections from this album on "hearts of space" the radio show. this "tune" haunted me for months until i found out who did it and bought it. i must say i am not disappointed, actualy i am continually thrilled. this music is hard to describe, and other reviewers can do that better than i. let me say this, whenever i want a change of pace-this work is an excellent choice. the sound quality is professional and polished, and quite intricate and sophisticated. this is a recording that i discover new sounds in all the time, sort of like, did i hear that before? maybe it's just me.
