Customer Reviews:
One of two magic albums.......2006-07-16
There were two albums that everybody in my circle of friends adored, but that nobody outside our little circle of friends ever even heard of. One was Nirvana Road by Deuter (1984), the other was an album and band from the 70's called Prairie Madness (long out of print and a bit harder to find.)
Nirvana Road is a very special trip that brings back memories of a very special time. Picture yourself walking through one of the legendary be-ins..... "You had to be there," but close your eyes and you can be there for the first time again with this perfect album.
1984 A Vintage Year For Deuter.......2005-06-20
Nirvana Road is a great middle-period Deuter album, being released in the early 80s after his "space music" 70s albums that had more in common with German bands like Popol Vuh. This album fully displays the influence of his spiritual journeys in India, and is ideal for meditation or relaxation. Deuter plays all the instruments except harp and tabla.
"Starway" features his synthesizers and acoustic guitar.
"Connemara" has a flute melody with "bubbly" synths, and some environmental sounds at the end.
"Pacifica" begins with some harp arpeggios (played by Renu) before entrance of oceanic synth "waves" and flute.
"The Low Road" -- more flute over percussive rhythm with acoustic guitar.
"The High Road" -- a livelier rhythm with a more active acoustic guitar, and flute plus tabla (played by Sebastiano).
"Cathedral" -- flute that sounds like it's drifting on an air current in an expansive acoustical setting.
"Meadows and Mystics" -- sitar with acoustic guitar playing the melody (one of my favorite Deuter songs).
"Echo of the East" -- a middle eastern desert feel with tabla and angular guitar lines.
"Caravan" also has a feeling of being in the desert with some great harp and tabla interaction.
"Alpine Shadow" is a quiet song with reflective harp harmonics.
"Nirvana Road" has a rhythmic synth line playing in tandem with a weaving flute melody, along with some bells... an uplifting end to a classic Deuter album.
A little bit of Magic.......2002-09-20
I'm not really familiar with Deuter's work, but I have loved this CD for years - how can a piece light, lively and peaceful at the same time?!
Spectacular find for your continuing enlightenment!.......1998-10-22
This album lifted me beyond my wildest dreams. I do believe that this single collection has been instrumental in a new heightened sense of awareness and being for me. Listening to these selections has become an almost daily affair.... and each time I listen I gain a renewed sense of happiness, joy and of total fulfillment!
