Customer Reviews:
Its OK.......2006-06-10
This jungle CD is not the greatest one i've heard. The animals were, at times, very loud. I liked the birds and crickets throuought the CD, but I disliked the hyenas. Elephants trumpeting is fine with me, but every time the elephant stops trumpeting on the CD, it makes this very obnoxious bellowing and whining sound. That sound is so irritating! The good things on the CD were the birds, crickets, rain, Chimpanzees, gorillas, and howler monkeys. I guess the lions roaring was fine - it wasn't too loud. If you want a good jungle sounds CD, try Amazing Amazon in the Relax with Nature series. It doesn't have any loud animal sounds.
I give this CD 3stars. Oh, one last thing. The animals are from all over the world and some of them were played at least 4 times. This included elephants and hyenas.
Stop that screeching!.......2005-11-27
I'm very disappointed with this CD, and it's a shame. Had the CD stuck with gentle sounds of crickets, song birds, and rain plopping on jungle leaves, it would have been great.
Unfortunately, at periodic moments you'll hear chimps screeching at the top of their lungs, elephants bellowing angrily, big cats roaring, and hyenas chattering. Considering that the screeching, bellowing, and roaring happen in nature only when the animal producing the sound is upset, and considering how loud these sounds are on the CD, it's hardly a relaxing mix. To boot, it sounded to me like the very same animal sounds were looped on the CD, since they were all repeated (in the same order) at least twice.
The only louder animal sounds that I found appealing were a strange chicken/raven-like clucking/cawing in the first 20 minutes of the CD (just before the annoying chimps), the roaring, which wasn't unbelievably loud, and hyenas chattering, which was rather entertaining.
Whether you're looking for authenticity or relaxation, I would not recommend this CD. Get it if you're looking for a good scare.
One of the best Ive heard, but still frustrating........2000-08-10
Im not sure why I keep buying these types of CDs. This is definitely one of the better ones I've heard, yet I still find it frustrating. There are several good things to say about this CD: 1) There is no music or human voices, just nature. 2) The animal sounds vary enough to not get irritating. Some CDs will make you listen to an obnoxious animal sound over and over. This CD does not. 3) The water sounds are kept to a minimum. There is no overpowering waterfall, no babbling brook, and the only bits of rain are very brief and quiet enough not to overwhelm the animal sounds. No cheesy thunder either. 4) The recording has enough depth and reverb to give the listener the sense that the jungle is deep and lush. Thats the best thing about this CD.
Whats frustrating with this CD and with virtually all others Ive heard is that occasional large animal sounds are mixed in too loud and sound too close. When a lion or chimp sounds like it is sitting next to you on your picnic blanket, its alarming, and it gives the recording a "self conscious" feel, similar to watching a movie where the actors keep looking right into the camera. Restricting the large animals to sounding "distant" in the mix would have made the recording sound much more natural. I think if I can find a way to download this CD into my computer, turn down the occasional loud elephants and stuff with sound editing software, and write it back to CD, then I will have the perfect jungle sounds CD.
Zoological purists will note that animals which appear to be in the same jungle are actually from different parts of the world.
In summary, I'll give this one 3 stars. But I give most other nature type CDs 1 star.
