4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Male Vocals -- Dark Romantic Feel.......2006-05-02

About the Band:
Soil & Eclipse is a goth / darkwave band from the San Francisco Bay Area (San Rafael) that is best known for their soft ambient electronics and lush, romantic male fronted vocals. The band started in 1996 when Jay Tye and G.W. Childs, both serving in the US Army at the time, began spending their free time performing locally. Since being signed with COP International, they've released four albums, and are due to release a new album sometime in 2006.

About the Album:
Necromancy is Soil & Eclipse's first release and is one of my favorite albums featuring ambient male vocals. In a genre dominated by numerous talented female vocalists, I honestly feel that Tye's vocals are one of the finest examples that heavenly voices / ethereal music is not a gender specific genre. And though I feel Tye's beautiful voice is what makes Soil & Eclipse unique and worth enjoying, Child's work is the perfect compliment.

Recommended Tracks:
- Rejoice
- Shroud of Turin
- Fields of Stone
- Seraphim

Please note that some of the names of the tracks listed on this amazon.com entry have typos. The correct titles include "Plastic Chair", "Rejoice", and "Fields of Stone". This is a really beautiful, though dark album.

4 out of 5 stars Necromancy.......2005-12-30

Necromancy is clearly an earlier CD from soil & eclipse but I think it does them justice. When I got this CD I was not expecting much, but it is quite good. Although the CD cover is not too impressive, many of the tracks are good and none are difficult to listen to. When you listen to the CD it is difficult to separate the songs, they all seem to flow together into a sad romantic kind of symphony. The songs are not as powerful as some of Soil & Eclipse's later CDs, like Purity which is one of my favorite CDs to date. Although many people will find this kind of music to be glum or depressing, it really is not. If you can take the time to relax and quiet your mind it is quite uplifting. This is a good CD for any Soil & Eclipse fan, but if you are new to the band I would suggest Purity which is more of their best work, in my opinion.
