Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Different for Kit from HTM.......2003-02-02

This record is the first solo effort I have heard from Kit Watkins. I am not sure if it falls in the new age category,...! This particular recording is less percussive than what my expectation were, but is musically and technologically intellengent music. Kit is an excellent keyboard artist. This record is VERY suitable for a mature audience. Great spin!

5 out of 5 stars Help! I can't stop playing this CD!!!.......2002-03-06

This is one of those insidious CDs that grow on you more and more, and before you know it, YOU CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT! I'm listening to it right now, in fact. It's hard to explain what is so enjoyable about it. It's sometimes funky, sometimes ethereal...sometimes impossible to explain. I'm buying all the Kit Watkins I can get my hands on. ...

5 out of 5 stars Wet, Dark and Incredible.......2000-12-31

I received this as a gift and only new of the artist as a "guest" on Camel's "I can See Your House From Here" LP, er, ah, CD. I'm showing my age. Anyway, the use of synthesier and electronic percussion, especially the cymbal samples really add to the rhythmic melodies and harmonies of this undertaking. Some tracks are dark & haunting while others are fun and uplifting. My favorite is the track entitled "Setting Iron John Free". When I listen to this CD I tend to repeat this track over and over.

This CD is most enjoyed when you sit down and give it a serious listen at loud levels. It is also enjoyable as background music, but I really stress the serious "sit down and stop what you're doing" listen approach on a good system at least twice. You'll hear things you didn't notice before. This happens with successive serious listening. We tend not to have the time to do this in our busy self-absorbed lives, but I strongly suggest that you make the time for this musical vehicle. You won't regret the journey that you are taken on.

The track "Cell Division" is fun, but as in a review by another listener, I concur that it could have been half as long.

I think that if you like Patrick O'Hearn, you'll enjoy this CD by Kit Watkins.

4 out of 5 stars Fans of Kit Watkin's Azure release will enjoy this title.......2000-12-06

If you're familiar with Watkin's other works, this CD won't disapoint you. His masterful use of electronic percussion to punctuate dark and mysterious undercurrents of melody is as forceful as ever.

Yet, as anyone also familiar with Watkin's brief stint with Camel ("Remote Romance") knows, he can call up a funky, slightly jazzy bent on occasion, as witnessed by "Funky Duty," an up-tempo detuned piano chordal blues number, complete with skat track.

The only track I feel could have been tightened up is the 12-plus minute opus "Cell Division." An interesting concept without enough fresh content to last the entire length.

"Cell Division" notwithstanding, this is a great effort.
