Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars this is one awesome music collection of Bruce Mitchell.......2003-06-07

This album is one of my top three of my CD collections. We ( my first-met-beauty and I)was browsing around in the Nature store after our first date dinner. That moment, when the first song of the CD was playing, My lover halted and listened. Sure enuff... we bought the CD and played almost everyday after. We loved every song in the collection. Now 8 years after, we married, and every time we play the CD, it still sounds wonderful and we still love every song. These kind of music always bring you back to precious moments that you thought you already forgot.

5 out of 5 stars Incredible Sound.......2002-10-11

I bought this in '95. Put it in the stereo in a big empty, wood floored dining room. Like I did. I only wish rock music would have taken a closer path. To this. "Summer" and "Worldview" were my favorite songs then. The rest really didn't grab me. But they did tonight. Over 7 years later I'm listening to this again and frankly, it rocks. But my two favorite songs are still the same. The Sax in "Summer" is totally awesome. I'm 46, I discovered Bruce Mitchell 10 years ago. "Dancing on the Edge" is another CD of his you should hear. But, getting back to "The Gathering", this is some of the best music I have heard in my life, and I'm an old Zeppelin and Van Halen fan. I like to hear stuff that sounds good, I'm not hooked to any particular kind of music. This is beautiful music, and you just haven't heard this CD until you turn it up loud, it confirms a rating of "5".

5 out of 5 stars Incredible! Uplifting & Peacefull.......2001-11-27

This is my favorite CD. I've purchased many for family and friends. I play it almost daily, using tracks 3 to 6 to rock my daughter to sleep. Only track 7 seems to stray from the continuity of the album. I hope there will be a new release soon.

5 out of 5 stars Not kidding, great music for putting babies to sleep.......2000-05-18

There is so much variety of music in this album and with such feeling and listening friendliness that it actually lulls my grandbabies to sleep.

5 out of 5 stars An essential recording.......2000-04-18

While browsing in a store this CD played in the background. Just as my wife and I were about to leave, "Beyond The Horizon" started playing and we were halted in our tracks by the shear haunting beauty on this song. I went back and bought the CD without hearing the remaining six songs. I was not disappointed. The first track has a slight jazz feel to it and second has some Celtic undertones to it. The mix of piano/keyboards and wind instruments are very comforting. This is great diner music as well as enjoyable at a predominate volume. I'm not a big saxophone music fan (sorry) but Bruce has done a great job of adding the soprano sax to several cuts that really highlight how beautifully the instrument can be played. The penny whistle and harp lines that run through most every selection on the CD definitely make me think of gentler times in Ireland, though I wouldn't really call "The Gathering" a Celtic release. Some songs have more of a "beat" and others paint a musical landscape fit for movie's soundtrack. This release has a very nice mixture of meditative broad works, uplifting hopeful melodies and soothing arrangements that at times are reminiscent of John Tesh's style - maybe it's just the sax. All in all, this is a wonderful collection of tunes that can lift your spirits and sooth frazzled nerves. Great for any music lover.
