Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars More of a "happening" than a concert!.......2007-02-13

The collective sound of 10,000 Japanese teenage girls going utterly gonzo at the same time over a very sophisticated band with four keyboard players, a drummer and no guitars!

In Western countries like Australia, Yellow Magic Orchestra were regarded as a rather specialised, sophisticated AND highly influential "Art-house" Pop band. People who like YMO were usually the chardonnay set in Australia - serious young men in their twenties who dressed like David Bowie and had girlfriends with Louise "Lulu" Brookes hairstyles, green & white polka-dot dresses and matt red lipstick (i.e. Art Tarts).

No so in Japan, Sakamoto, Hosono and Takahashi were absolute pop stars there and they were the idols of millions of Japanese teenagers.

After Service contains some very fine performances of some of YMO's best material and the sound of the fans, in apparent ecstasy, adds something to this recording, IMHO.

As I said, more of a "happening" or an "act of worship" than a concert.

4 out of 5 stars Great recording.......1999-04-03

Terific concert recording for any band. My original Japan vinyl pressing is typical of the high quality record pressing from Japan in the eighties. The Japanese attention to detail (exemplified by YMO itself) is missed today.

5 out of 5 stars 1983 concert as superb YMO recording.......1998-09-21

This CD was recorded at the Nippon Budokan in 1983, and is very typical of the Japanese early Electronica music genre. Most of YMO's hits that they debuted with or were famous for are represented on this album, with new instruments and key-changes that offer an enhanced "YMO on Steroids" feeling. This reviewer highly reccommends the album.
