Good Tool For Beginning Meditator.......2005-04-14

I just love this CD. I wanted to start practicing meditation. As someone with a very busy mind, I needed all the help that I can get. This CD is a perfect tool for me. Two of the 4 selections (each about 15 minutes in length) feature monks chanting mantras (e.g., Om mani padmi hum) repeatedly, with "cosmic" sounds in the background -- most likely those correlating to shockras. (The other two selections favor the instrumental sounds.) With an ample volume, the deep bass tones of the lush mantras just seem to pulsate through the body. A lovely therapeutic hum.

I like that these selections seem refreshingly simple -- not too busy.

TIPS FROM A BEGINNER: Put on headphones, and focus on the mantras -- repeating silently or aloud, or just intently listening -- to deepen your attention. If your mind starts to drift to other thoughts, notice this and refocus your attention on the mantras -- hearing every word/syllable/sound. I try to visualize a nighttime sky. The "total" darkness helps clear my mind (in trying to mentally mimic the emptiness), and the starry sky is well suited to the cosmos sounds.]

Even if you do not use this CD for meditation practice, it should provide a nice relaxing background. And, quite a value! I look forward to trying others in the 'series'.
