As someone who was introduced to Youngs' music through his collaborations with Makato Kawabata and his Youngsbower project, to hear the drastic change in sound on this album from those left me awestruck. I've since purchased some of his earlier solo works, but this still remains my favorite because it can simaltaneously challenge the listener with its drone-like guitar parts and barely distinguishable lyrical phrases while keeping itself incredibly accessible and listener friendly. Not to say Youngs' other projects are not readily accessible, they just take a little more openness to engage at times. Although I could see one criticizing this album for being boring and repetitive, I don't think that criticism is totally warranted because all of Youngs' music seems to utilize cyclical rhythms to add to its fuller effect. So, in short, this is not really active listening music in the sense of songs "doing much," but it is ideal either as background music or as an album that you can immerse yourself in if you listen very carefully.
