Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Flightpath of the imagination.......2005-01-23

On my preverbial list of favorite Jonn Serrie albums, I'll admit that this one doesn't rank all the way up at the top, but it's still a testament to Serrie's remarkable ability to carry the listener away. My favorite track has always been "Deep Starship." It's full of deep, dark rumbling sounds and eerie monotonous drones, but it's all interrupted about 3 or 4 minutes in by a spooky synth melody that emerges out of the mix and dominates the song for about 2 minutes. To me, those are the best 2 minutes on the cd. The lovely "Muroc" is also notable. It's like a soundtrack to a beautiful ambient dream - like seeing angels or something. Perfect for a beautiful late afternoon when the sun's rays are slanting across from the west horizon.

Flightpath is not really geared towards space. Instead, it takes you on more of a journey through the upper atmosphere. While not quite as fresh as "Planetary Chronicles Vol. 1" or "And the Stars Go With You," it's still an enjoyable ride.

5 out of 5 stars A Significant Aerospace Progam.......2003-04-01

After the incredible success of "...Stars Go With You", this second outing by Serrie continues to demonstrate his mastery of space music - this time a little closer to Earth as we get a piece of stratosphere.

This is not a single-minded concept like "Stars", we journey into other atmospheric environments prior to the departure into outer space. After the CD clears some banal compositions (the title track and "Sky Safari" [a fusion piece relating the then cliche rainforest music and the sky, I surmise] the flightpath takes us to Muroc - strikingly peaceful and beautiful moments which should not be overlooked by anyone who enjoys good music.

The space music on the second portion of the album, anchored by the cosmic titan "Deep Starship" (cast adrift alone in space for the rest of eternity), is on par with any of Serrie's spacemanship to date. In total, this 1989 work is magnificent and worthy of the highest accolades.

5 out of 5 stars Light Years Away.......2002-08-11

Flightpath was one of the first "spacey" CDs I ever bought. It was the summer of '92. It had already been available for 3 years. If you want to hear some space music, buy this CD. "Sky Safari" is one of the best space songs anyone ever did. THe middle of the song gets somewhat repetitive but the beginning and end are majestic. "Deep Starship" will really take you out there and "Glider" is the perfect follow up and finish. As with Ixlandia, if you have a stereo that will take high volume, by all means, turn it up.

5 out of 5 stars My First of many of Jonn Serrie's Albums.......2001-12-04

"Deep Starship" (featured on this CD), is the first piece I ever heard of Jonn's on a radio show called "Hearts of Space". I thought I had tuned into deep space. I felt I had been some how been magically transported on board a large craft, slowly making it's way through the cosmos, with the faint sound of engine humm and the song of the cosmos echoing throughout it's walls. I believe the piece is about 11 minutes long. Enought time to really enjoy the journey if you wish to disapear and cruze the deep areas of space. Chart your "Flightpath" among the stars! See you on board!

4 out of 5 stars Heavenly.......2000-08-19

"Flightpath" is a fantastic follow up to an almost unbeatable "And The Stars Go With You". It is extremely easy to visualize yourself soaring high in the atmosphere. "Flightpath" has some of the most deeply peaceful tracks by Jonn Serrie. The only track I'm not too fond of is the opening track. It's peppy, upbeat style sounds almost like the soundtrack to a space cartoon, like the Jetsons. Otherwise the c.d. is definitely worth having in anybody's ambient music collection.
