5 out of 5 stars Another Jarvis Classic.......2006-11-15

John Jarvis debut CD on the MCA label over 20 years ago definitely stands the test of time. It is very similar in design and style to his follow up Something Constructive and here, like there, the tracks are either solo piano, smooth synthesizer, or a mix of both. There are definite hints of country but this CD goes beyond that into jazz, light classical, and what could have been termed new age at the time. Overall one of the best debut recordings I have heard by anyone. In my opinion it does fall slightly short of Something Constructive but only because the overall sound quality of SC is somewhat better and the piano solo's on SC are more complex than here. But, just like SC, this is an excellent offering of great piano and synthesizer instrumental music that in my opinion, and I am aware this is ONLY my opinion, would be worth some of the prices listed for a used copy as this, just like SC, sadly has been out of print for years.

5 out of 5 stars So FA so Good.......2004-05-11

One of Nashville's most creative composers, John Jarvis itched to get out of the country backup session mode: in the mid eighties the MCA master series gave him his chance. Wonder what he thought of being tagged a "new age" artist!!!

So Fa So Good is a rather short outing, but every song is a home run. As a whole its as good as Something Constructive, the album tha gave him national exposure.

You can hear John's American Country keel as he sails through these numbers. The instrumentation is simple, the musicianship is outstanding, the chord progressions and musical structure are varied, sometimes wondrously surprising, and the melodies burrow into the mind. Great piano playing--electric and acoustic.

Why Amazon has no samples or cover art for Jarvis' 80s albums is a mystery to me.
