Customer Reviews:
Yes, kids like this music too!!!.......2006-12-11
I discovered this cd at the Zoo. I listened to a sample, which was track #2, but then the machine kept playing track #5. That first track hypnotized me- I got this cd and played it as soon as I got home. I came on Amazon and found all of the Dan Gibson's Solitudes cds, and put like, all of them on my wish list. This cd is beautiful. It takes me to the exotic jungle. Track #2 is my all-time favorite. It's like the heartbeat of the nature in this tranquil but wild place. It's full of mystery and power- like the jaguar. Tracks 6 and 7 are mournful, and make you want to cry. This is a beautiful cd, however, since it's the only Solitude I own, it has become a bit repeditive. I want to someday have all of these beautiful cds. I have listened to the samples for these cds so I know that they are perfect. Excluding the cds with obnoxious chanting in the songs, they all rock!! I love hearing these because I feel in touch with all that God has created. This is a wonderful cd. Buy it. Buy all of these cds. They are truly worth it.
Very Engaging..........2001-06-15
'Secrets of the Jungle', in my opinion, deserves a "4" because the music and nature sounds are sooo interesting; it leaves one wondering: What instrument is that? Or...I'll bet that bird is pretty.
This album is, depending on your mood, either extremely engaging or soothing. Sometimes I can't listen to it because of its intensity and other times I pop it in and am swept away into the Costa Rican rainforest...where I'm exploring on-foot the many mystiques of the jungle.
While this album may not be the most soothing of albums, it is definitely a stirring example of the creativity that can go into designing a piece of music. Kavanagh manages to incorporate several unusual and high interesting musical instruments into his compositions--definitely, at least to the average American, these are secrets of the jungle!
When I listen to this album I like to imagine that I'm meandering in and out of ancient temples and ruins, close to the river and mountains...ever finding something new. There's always a new sound...a new vision. There are streams that will wind through your spirit and refresh it, there are music pieces that will stir it...reminding you of how it might feel to be awed by the ancient American temples.
Wow...this album definitely does take me away!
Not bad.......2000-06-17
In my opinion this CD is not one of the best Gibson's products. I find that the music is dull, intrusive and not very well matched with the theme. Howling featured in two tracks doesn't match either: it may be that of a monkey but it sounds pretty much like a wolf. For the price is not a great deal.
