Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars very disappointed.......2004-07-05

while he is an excellent musician, the music is a let down - if you like joe satriani then check him out, but if you like tom morello/rage/audioslave type fat humbucker guitar sound and want to mix it with some heavy beats, check out the crystal method, overseer, and the dub pistols.

5 out of 5 stars Pure creation! Awesome!.......2003-11-27

Nikhil achieves a sound indicative of a true, organic musician. He has created concepts and explorations of music that go far beyond any of the industry's "canned and spammed artists". If you are bored with the radio and your current collection or if you are looking for a change in perspective that is well-balanced, exciting, intuitive, and enjoyable, then definitely check out this album.

5 out of 5 stars ...and now for something completely different!.......2002-11-26

Nihil is a multi-talented musician in every meaning of the word: Not only that he himself played every instrument on this CD, did all the lyrics and finally even poduced it. He also combines many different styles of music to a very experimental unique-sounding album. Based on rock music dominated by an excellent guitar playing, Nikhil's songs show influences by almost every style of modern music. Sometimes hard, sometimes dreamy, relaxed or angry: The moods change with the styles. You can't really talk about particular songs. The album as a whole is a little masterpiece. If you're tired of all the well-established bands not daring to try something new, check out Nikhil's Naked Sunrise! You'll be surprised. In a positive way!!!

5 out of 5 stars Aphex Rules, This Rules.......2002-06-05

I give it five stars for everyone who likes Aphex Twin! I like Nikhil's rock songs. The guy's obviously a monster guitar player, but it's the electronic stuff that caught my ear. It's like Richard D. James albums. Not your disposable club "electronica". It's more ambitious. You can tell most of it is live and not programmed. Also, no pre-packaged synth sounds. Nice touch! Instead, lots of Tom Morello-esque guitar sounds.

Oh yeah, don't listen to the reviews that tell you to buy some tasteless corporate music instead. The same problem is happening on the Aphex Twin pages. Some people just don't get Aphex, not to mention Radiohead, and the same thing is happening with Nikhil. Good music doesn't sound the same as everything else. These guys make their own rules. Deal with it! If you want to hear kicking rock guitar and new electronic music, this is a great record.

5 out of 5 stars ENJOYED IT A LOT! A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!!!!!.......2002-06-05

This has a very ecclectic selection of songs and is hard to describe. Lots of excellent guitar playing and solos, proper chops and style, lots of electronic stuff, either really happy or a bit dark. Some songs pull you in right away and I can appreciate the others after more listens.

Like one review noted: It is complex, so linking the songs may not be easy for the casual listener. I doubt many people have read The Language of Fear as it is very difficult to come by, or will get the Kesey references, but it's nice to see literate musicians in a world where the current pop stars are more likely to make a concept album about a Teen magazine or the back of a hair gel can. The songs do have the repeated motifs and melodies that link them and pull it all together though. It isn't exactly hard to notice a melody on guitar that comes back in another song played on piano. So most music fans could enjoy it on their own level. Fans of Dream Theater, Tool and prog-rock understand repeated motifs and sounds. But you still don't have to be an active listener to enjoy it.

I took a chance buying it off an auto-recommendation too, but unlike some, I actually read the album description and reviews BEFORE I bought it. I disagree with the few negative reviews. For easy-listening, manufactured pop go for Britney or Michael Bolton. People who read the reviews beforehand would've seen the one that said, "Anyone who wants to hear real talent instead of overmanufactured pop songs that all sound the same must check this album out!" This review is exactly why I chose to buy the Nikhil CD. If you wanted N'sync on guitar, should've gone elsewhere. All in all, it's nice to hear people doing something different from force fed radio patter!
