Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Very good CD with a powerful OM chant..........2007-03-31

I bought this CD for the very high quality OM chant which is asynchronous and done with many voices. While this track is only about 17 minutes, it is simple, beautiful and seems to come from a very deep space. I am a meditation instructor and I have shopped around for a CD with this quality OM chant. This is the best I have found so far. I like the Om Namaha Shivaya chant less, but this is more a matter of taste than anything negative about it in itself. I really don't think you can go wrong here for the price and my experience is that the second track is deeply relaxing and helps one get into connection with a deep place of silence and connection.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Healing Music.......2006-01-25

This CD is simply one of the best healing music available. I have used it in my hospice work, in seminars, to soothe my children to sleep. It is filled with a beautiful, spiritual energy that words cannot describe.

3 out of 5 stars Those wanting an "eastern" sound experience, look elsewhere.......2005-04-07

I bought this CD a few years back, after hearing the second track, "Om," at a new age bookstore. When I got home and listened to the first track, a very western-sounding rendition of Om Namaha Shivaya, I was very disappointed in the disc, but I kept it for the "Om" track, which I sometimes use for relaxing music; and occasionally for meditation, when I'm feeling particularly agitated, and having trouble settling my mind down (although I usually meditate w/o music).

If you want something a lot more idiomatic, I highly recommend a CD called, Sacred Chants of Shiva: From the Banks of the Ganges, on the Heaven on Earth Music Label. In addition to five other tracks of chants about Shiva, this excellent disc concludes with a 31-minute rendition of Om Namaha Shivaya. Both the vocals and instrumentation are a lot more idiomatic than the Robert Gass version. [...]

1 out of 5 stars BEWARE...If you are familiar with the original release!.......2005-02-24

I just bought this CD and what a LET DOWN! I've had the original release of this on tape for years. I LOVE it for the second track (Om), a constant "drone" with voices, that is the perfect vehicle for putting one in that "nothingness" state.
The let down here is that on the original version, the Om track runs over 40 minutes (of uninterrupted bliss), whereas the CD has a 17 minute version! I don't know what possessed the record company or the artist to change the original format, but I would like to have seen an indication of this on the Amazon listing details.
So, I don't know who to point the finger at here; Amazon for lack of detail or the revised CD format, but I'm really disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Reminiscent...for this former Catholic turned yogini!.......2004-12-10

As a student and instructor of yoga, this is a CD that I often use in class. The first track is a choral interpretation of "Om Namaha Shivaya" (a healing mantra) with extraordinary harmony. It is a favorite of mine during the holidays, perhaps because it conjures memories of attending midnight mass on Christmas Eve as a small child, being too tired to care about the service were it not for the beautiful lulling of the choir softly repeating "Stille Nacht." I also find that beginning asana students respond well to the repetition of the first track as it is a bit more accessible to them because of the "familiarity" of the sound. The second track "Om" is a traditional rendition of Tibetan chanting and is beautiful as well. If you are looking for strictly eastern, temple chanting, this is not where you want to look...but if you want A little something for the `western' yogi in you, and a little something for the `eastern' yogi in you, give it a listen!

Peace!
