3 out of 5 stars Not that bad...........2006-12-21

This is not the worst Richard Pryor album and it's not the best. When Richard left Laff Records, he signed with Warner Bros. but Laff still had rights over his material. They let him out of the contract but they held on to the material. So what we have here are hastily packaged bits from the Laff vaults, pieced together so Laff could benefit from Richard's Warner Bros. success. Whenever Warner Bros. would release an album, Laff would release one also to profit from his popularity. That's why this album sounds pieced together, because it is. Laff was trying to cash in.

The material is not bad at all, it's just put together wrong. It's like someone went in the vaults, didn't even bother to listen to the tracks, just pasted them together and said, "Voila!" So, it's not the material, it's the presentation. I give it a 3 stars because Laff could have done a better job putting this album together.

So if you love Richard Pryor, like I do, and just love to hear the sound of his voice, go ahead and take a chance. But stay away from 'The Wizard of Comedy.' It's worse than this one. If you want to hear some good ol' polished Richard Pryor, a Richard Pryor album that has a flow, go with his Warner Bros. recordings. All of his Warner Bros. recordings can be found in his box set, 'And It's Deep Too.' But if you can't afford that, you can go with his Anthology or the 'Evolution/Revolution' CD. Unless you are just a die-hard Richard Pryor fan, you can pass on this one.

2 out of 5 stars Falls Short.......2006-02-19

As stated by another reviewer, this album is edited in a way that the listener always feels like he has entered the joke halfway through, and only hears part of a punch line. The individual tracks on this album are very short, unlike one of Pryor's most popular tracks, "Mudbone", and they dont flow well either.

1 out of 5 stars I love Richard Pryor but..........2003-06-10

...this album is horrible. It's a collection of poorly mastered sound bytes from numerous different shows. It doesn't flow and half of the time you can't tell what is going on. The material is ok, but it is definitely not the cutting edge stuff that Richard Pryor is famous for. Please avoid this item.
