Da Yoopers...NOT from Wisconsin.......2005-11-11
One of the best CDs around. I love it because I am a Yooper and I grew up listening to da guys. Yoopers are from the upper peninsula of Michigan, not Wisconsin, for those of you who don't know. They sing about the way of life up here in da U.P. Can't find this way of life anywhere else but in God's Country.
Once you listen to dis, you're a lifelong Yoophead!.......2005-10-27
Dis Best of served as my introduction to Da Yoopers back when I was in high school. I heard my Uncle Ed owned a copy of dis album so I asked if I could borrow it & tape it. I did & right from da first listen, I've been laffin' till I had tears in my eyes (literally when I heard da most talked-about trax "Da Couch Dat Burps" & "Diarrhea"). Rite after dat, I felt compelled to go out & get da original cassette-only albums (Yoopanese (1986), Culture Shock (1987), Camp Fever (1988) & Yoop it Up (1989)), thier 1st CD release (Yoopy Do Wah (1991)) & everything else dat came after "Diehards" (One Can Short of a Six-Pack (1994) (da last album wit da late Joe Potila), Jackpine Savage (1999) & Songs for Fart Lovers (2003)) da only ones I don't gots' yet are da out-of-print "We're Still Rockin" (1996)(da 1st one wit Joe's equally heavy-accented replacement, Jim "I can play my UP-shaped guitar wit my ass" Bellemore)(I got a used record store owner who has family in Yooperland dat's helping my find a used-CD copy) & "Naked Elves in Cowboy Boots: da Christmas Album" (2000) (I'm waiting 'till November to place an order at my local small-chain store for dat). In my case, from "2nd Week of Deer Camp" to "Nitemare (in My Bathroom)", once you listen to dis, you're a lifelong Yoophead! YOUBETCHA!!!
Agh! Wrong!.......2005-04-04
Ya, Da Yoopers are a great band. 'Cept dere's just one thing I noticed in 'dese here reviews.
Da Upper Peninsula, is not a part a Wisconsin. Now, I know 'dat was already pointed out in another review, yet I'd thought I'd might as well hammer it into yer' heads some more.
A Yooper is a resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Michigan. The only peninsula Wisconsin's got is the Door Peninsula, and it is far outclassed by the Upper Peninsula. Please, if you're going to make a review, check your facts first. The U.P. has been included as part of Canada, part of Wisconsin, why, even in the 10th Grade World Geography book there's a map that doesn't even have the Upper Peninsula on it, yet nonetheless, no matter what the maps say, the Upper Peninsula is part of Michigan.
Classic Yoopers from a former Yooper.......2004-12-22
I remember when I first heard Da Yoopers - I was in high school in Trenary in 1984 when we first moved up to God's Country.... Since then, my views on life have changed dramatically. Da Yoopers have their own genre of music, not quite in the "Wierd Al" category, but we're not talkin Willie n Waylon here either. This is a fun-filled, hysterical CD made especially for Finnish Rednecks and those who love them. If you can handle fart jokes, drinking songs, and songs lamenting of Northern life, then this CD is for you. Personally, when I hear "Rusty Chevrolet" and "Smeltin USA", I get all teary-eyed and long to make the pilgrimmage back to the Motherland...
