Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Hype not lived up to.......2007-01-10

This guy gets a lot of hype on the comedy circuts. Some of his stuff is very very funny and on the mark. Other stuff is just way out there weird. This album kind of feels like it was pasted together out of spare parts and is not one performance which I prefer.

5 out of 5 stars Original Comedy 10+ years old that still hit the topics of today.......2006-07-01

This is the true Bill Hicks expierence. His comedy is not jokes, but facts and opinions stated in hilarious ways. He is a revolutionist and this album is his top work.

5 out of 5 stars Sad That He's Had No Worthy Successors.......2006-03-17

Where are his successors? Now it's all sex and race and how many obscenities you can fit into a set. Standup is in a decadent phase it seems to me. It's all about the comic's personal life, his/her neuroses and observations about those neuroses, but no politics, no social commentary. Oh well, let's hope Hicks gets listened to by a new wave of young comedians.

Where is he when we need him? Bill? Bill? Bill?

5 out of 5 stars stand up, yes...comedy, uh..........2006-02-26

Bill Hicks wasn't a stand up comedian because he never told any jokes. None of his material had punchlines, or even moments where you suddenly realise he's been spinning a yarn or making a convoluted observation just so he can get to the point where he'll give it an unexpected twist to jerk a reaction out of the audience. All he does is just stands there and tells the truth. And the truth is so wrong, and disgusting, that you just feel inwardly grateful that someone, somewhere realised it as well, and managed to make it funnier than it probably deserved to be.

3 out of 5 stars Not Bill's Funniest.......2006-02-26

I was really looking forward to hearing this CD. Having heard Bill on the Flying Saucer Tour, Vol. 1 CD and on the DVDs Sane Man and Bill Hicks: Satirist, I was expecting a lot out of this effort. I was somewhat disappointed. Bill certainly has some great bits. In particular, I liked the Jay Leno (which has to be one of the most vicious bits I've ever heard), Red Foxx, and Willie Nelson material. But, as the title promises, it's a rant, which doesn't evoke many bell laughs. It's politically charged, but not necessarily funny. I admire Bill for tackling an issue like abortion, but it's not a very funny subject, and Bill makes a rather a rather ham-fisted segue into his pro-choice material. Saying that pro-lifers should block cemeteries rather than abortion clinics makes no logical sense. People in cemeteries are already dead, Bill. Maybe they should block military recruiting offices? In any case, Bill is much better when he sticks to criticizing pop culture and the stupidity of government. But here, he is negative to the point of being nihilistic. "Rant in E Minor" makes "Sane Man" look lighthearted in comparison. This CD is definitely worth listening to if you like Bill Hicks. But he's been funnier elsewhere.
