3 out of 5 stars Good Cd.......2005-04-21

The songs are good, especially Al Son Que Nos Toquen and La Batalla

5 out of 5 stars Vargas does it again!.......1999-10-14

The diversity of the music that Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan plays is what makes them so great. And once more, they entretain us giving us a CD that has music ranging from the son (Al son que nos toquen), classic rancheras by Jose Alfredo Jimenez (Vamonos), boleros by Juan Gabriel (Si Quieres), and innovative music of other cultures (Kawano Nagareno Yoni). El Mariachi Vargas is at it's best and once again demonstrates why it is "el mejor mariachi del mundo."

5 out of 5 stars A great CD with recordings that "llegan al alma".......1999-10-07

I am a fan of the Vargas and have had the pelasure of seeing them in person many times. Recording #7 "Desden" is a must hear song. It is recorded with all the feelings of a graet mariachi. I would highly recommend this CD. You will not be disappointed! I have already ordered 5 CDs as gifts and will probably order others also.

2 out of 5 stars Pleasant, but not real mariachi music.......1999-08-10

Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan is the most important group in the history of the genre. Their recordings from the 1940's through the '60's, both alone and in support of great Ranchera stars, are treasures of Mexican music history. While the ensemble remains one of the best for theater performances, this recording doesn't feature a single *real* mariachi piece, nor any compositions in authentic regional *son* style. It's pretty, but it's not real mariachi music. If you would prefer something with more roots sensibilities, buy older Vargas CDs, or anything by Mariachi Cobre.
