An Oscar De La Hoya Fan.......2006-06-08
This cd is an ok cd. I think that "The Golden Boy" sings better in spanish than in english. But overall the cd is alright.
JUST BECAUSE HE'S A BOXER DOESN'T MEAN HE CAN SING.......2005-02-06
I first heard of Oscar De La Hoya's debut album from my grandmother and decided to give it a try. To my surprise I found out that Oscar cannot carry a tune and does not have a very good English singing talent. No wonder why The Golden Boy's debut album sold very poorly and many critcs ignored it. But however Oscar sings very well in Spanish AND SHOULD only be singing Spanish only if he was recording a Spanish album and the only great song he does a good job on is The Bee Gees hit Run to me and this song was I think the only single that bombed from this not so great album and will be the first cd to hit the Goodwill and Savers bins in a few years from now i'll tell you. So my advice to you is play it and I mean Play It by ear and get yourself a Jon Secada album or Enrique Iglesias album and see for yourself a better singer. And Please do not buy only if you're a Oscar De La Hoya fan and for a better singer I recommend Jon Secada's Heart Soul and a Voice,
And remember Just because he's a great boxer does not mean he can carry a tune
Two Stars For Having The Cojones To Do This. .......2004-09-23
It's easy to dismiss at first sight the idea of Oscar De La Hoya releasing an album, in fact it's pretty laughable now when one reads some of the early comments found on this page when the CD was new. One reviewer even labels De La Hoya as a "major new talent in the Latin industry." Almost 4 years since this album was released it's obvious De La Hoya's singing career went nowhere and he was actually knocked out in his last fight. But everyone deserves their day in court and so De La Hoya deserves to have his album judged purely on the level of, well, an album. Maybe De La Hoya isn't a horrible singer or anything of the sort, but his work here gives us nothing we haven't seen done better by much more recognized pop artists. The production is the kind of coldly computerized type that will sound very dated in 20 years (if it doesn't already). The songs are pretty much typical cliched material that feel like De La Hoya simply selling to all the ladies out there drooling for the guy (which he probably was anyway). The fact of the matter is that De La Hoya couldn't compete in the Latin industry against artists like Luis Miguel and Alejandro Fernandez who have strong, naturally far-reaching pipes. What we can look back at when we hear "Oscar De La Hoya" is a time when a boxer in good spirits just wanted to sing some pop.
im shocked ..... its a good cd ............2003-03-22
when i 1st heard that mr hoya was going to make a debut album i couldnt believe it , it was funny to me , but i thought it was kool , i got the same feeling just like i did with jennifer lopez and ricky martin doing a cross over english album ... i was like ok here we go is it going to be good or bad or ok , well i think that this cd is not bad , its sounds kool and it has nice beats , he also sounds very good , how ever he sounds like rj helton from american idol no difference whats so ever , even tho i just got this cd and it came out 2 yrs ago i think its good and i also feel that for a boxer he has a good voice unlike justin timberakes album justified which is really bad i mean come on ppl we all know its not all that, well if u feel that u want to get this cd but ur scared of wasting money get it dont worry its a kool cachy cd that will have u saying not bad not bad at all .........
Surprisingly Passable Album.......2002-07-24
De La Hoya has some pretty decent pipes which defy inevitable comparisons to that other thespian, William Shatner. It's even better than some of the other teeny-bopper dreck out there. No, I haven't bought this album nor do I intend to. I just think it's assuring that De La Hoya has something fall back on once he realizes that he doesn't like getting punched in that pretty face of his.
