El tenor de las americas--Magnifico!.......2003-02-04

Pedro Vargas has a wonderful, warm voice and sings with great feeling. He sings equally well ballads, boleros, and rancheras. Incredible! There are two CDs called "Lo mejor de lo mejor" for Pedro Vargas; this one and one produced in 2001. Both are excellent; only a few songs overlap, so if you love his voice, buy both of them! This one, unfortunately has no liner notes; it does not tell you the composers, the musicians, nor the other singers in duets. "La negra noche" is a duet with Jorge Negrete; "Traicionera" with Libertad Lamarque, "Felicidades" with Julio Iglesias. Most of the rancheras--Ella, Corazon, corazon, La carinosa, Cuando vivas conmigo, Que bonito amor, El rey--are accompanied by the great Mariachi Vargas de Tenochtitlan. Many of boleros are accompanied by the big band of Mario Ruiz Armengol. Truly "the best of the best."

El tenor de las Americas.......2002-10-26

This is a good song selection of his music. I think this is the only cd of his music that I have. I must say that most of the songs in this cd are from his later recordings(i.e when he was older). This cd that I am reviewing is not bad at all either. It tells you how good this "tenor de las Americas" was.

Truly the Best of the Best!.......2000-09-15

This is without doubt the best collection of Mexican music I have ever heard. Just the way Pedro Vargas pronounces each word is music to the ears. His rendition of Solamente Una Vez is the best ever recorded. The selection of songs is outstanding including Piel Canela,Ella,and Cielito Lindo and so much more.. The only criticism I have is there is no recognition on the label to the other artists performing on some of the recordings with him. I know Julio Iglesias sang the duet on Felicidades but I did not know the other performers, however this is one of the best CD's I have ever purchased. With this collection of some of the most popular Mexican music ever written Pedro Vargas may be gone but he will never be forgotten.
