A Tasty Debut.......1999-12-21

While hailing from the same neighborhood as the last three Los Lobos albums and the Latin Playboys projects, Radio Chon is distinctive and original. These guys deconstruct traditional Latin music and remake it into something at once familiar yet unique. I could do without a couple of the more gimmicky sound effects, but on the whole, this is an extremely good release, deftly produced by Caesar Rosas. I'm anxious to see what Los Otros does next.

This album is a gem! A very unique blend of traditional latin music merged with elements of modern rock, funk, and soul, producing a style of music that they call "chicano groove"- it must be heard to be appreciated. The album is variously light-hearted ( see the title track 'Radio Chon') then moving and inspiring ( 'So Far From God') and haunting('Solo Queria Tu Amor'). Fans of Latin music need this album in their collection.
