Salsa is still hot, Merengue is even hotter, but Bachata is the music that's really happening right now! Originating in the Dominican Republic, it is relatively underground in the USA and is the latin music for those, "In the know."

Fausto Rey's BACHATA A MEDIA VOZ is a very solid CD of bittersweet bachatas, and it is that bittersweet quality ("el amarague") that makes bachata music so unique, so special. Included are traditional merengues like "Pero Ya Se te Olvido" ("You Already Forgot") that add a variety to the overall musical selection. A highly recommended bachata CD. - Musikid

Fausto Rey, El Niche in Spanish, has returned with a Merengue music variant, the Bachata. Merengue/Bachata are typical Carribean folk music, indigenous to Fausto Rey's native Dominican Republic. The Bachata tells of lost or frustrated love, e.g. "Dame un Chin"--"Give Me a Little" and "Recordar"--"Remember". The rhythm of this music has, in musical terms, hooks which give it a half-life of always. Fausto Rey is better known for his Merengue and Popular song, EL DISCO DE ORO the most recent.
