5 out of 5 stars The Mambo King- "PREZ" Perez Prado & His Orch. Vol.3.......2000-05-04

Re-issuing many of the Perez Prado recordings for RCA during the 50's was one of the greatest gifts the famous BMG/Tropical Series gave all afro-cuban music and series fans. This particular CD, was the last Prado re-issue released by series producer Domingo Echevarria in 1996. As was customary and whenever possible, first generation analog master tapes were used for this re-issue. Most of the songs on this CD were RCA recordings by Prado from his 1951 U.S. and particularly NYC tour, when I think Prado made up his mind and started making plans to relocate to the U.S. from his "musical base" in Mexico. Eventually he did relocate to the U.S. in 1953. If you're old enough, "Savoy Mambo", "In a Little Spanish Town", "C'est Si Bon", "Muchachita","Mama y Tata", and all other "mambos" in this CD will evoke great memories. If you're not you will experience a musical thrill similar to those of us who first heard Perez Prado's mambos decades ago! This album by Prado, features several artists who joined their talents with Prado, such as the Dave Lambert Quartet and afro-cuban percussionists Mongo Santamaria and Chino Pozo. In my opinion the only flaw both Perez Prado and RCA made during the famed 1951 U.S. tour by Prado, was the exclusion of Beny More at the recording studios. In my opinion, by excluding Beny More, they deprived the world of what could have been this legendary duo's very best recordings! In spite of that,Tropical Series "THE MAMBO KING-Perez Prado", Vol.3 is a rare collector's jewel.
