5 out of 5 stars Esclavo de su Musica.......2002-11-17

After working with the Estefan family in their last project, the Salasar Sisters applied the lessons learned and came out with an awesome CD loaded with energy and charm. The opening song of this CD "Solo se vive una vez" was advertised in South America through a Brazilian soap opera and gave this song a strong dive into the music charts. It is indeed a very catchy song..."Caramba!". "La Cita" is a slow tune that reflects the feelings of a wounded woman who catches her man cheating; it mixes drama, resignation and pride. "Hoy tengo ganas de ti" is a very tasteful remake of an old romantic song originally interpreted by its composer Miguel Gallardo. "Enreda" can really entangle any listener from the begining with its opening guitar melody. The next song "Hava Naguila" is another remake that stands on its own and I must say that every person that has heard this song has loved it. Another remarkable song from this Cd is "Tapame" it has a flamenco guitar intro before it jumps into becoming an enjoyable romantic song. All together this album is kind of short with its ten songs, but I guess its quality and not quantity that counts...

4 out of 5 stars Hoy tengo ganas de Azúcar Moreno.......2000-05-28

"Slave To Your Skin" is the title of Azúcar Moreno's 8th album, and it is classic Azúcar! The infectious opening track "Sólo se vive una vez" was a huge success in Spain, it has HIT written all over it. The mid-tempo "La cita" tells the story of a woman who's arranged a date with her unfaithful husband in a hotel room - "Imagine that I am not me, but one of the women you hoped to see, a stranger who wrote you a poem and drew you the moon on a piece of paper" ... love those lyrics! "Hoy tengo ganas de ti" is the 2nd single from the album, a strong, haunting dance track with a melancholic melody line. "Enredá" is also a great song, followed by a tribute to the Jewish people with an uptempo Flamenco-infused dance version of "Hava Nagila" which works well. The swingbeat title track features a piece of Spanish rap, but although it was also a single, it is not a highlight on the album. The mellow "Ámame toda la noche" is quite a nice track, somewhat R&B influenced. "Bandolero" sounds like a track Gipsy Kings could have made, very Spanish-sounding. "Tápame" has a Flamenco-guitar prelude before it shifts to a wonderful Latin track, one of my favorites of the album, before "Tiritando" closes the ball after just 38 minutes playing time (!) which is rather short today, and it's the only objection to this album. But a strong production, along with "Mambo", "El amor" and "Olé", this is one of Azúcar Moreno's best works.
