Customer Reviews:
Excuse the cheesy packaging.......2002-09-08
The folks at marketing most have though this was a Merengue cd.
This is actually a wonderful collection of Cuban "sons" and it's cousins the mambo and chacha from the 50's.
Matamoros, Guracheros, Prado, etc.
A very nice sampling.
Rock Around the Clock makes an appearance.
Why? Maybe to place a chronological reference? Maybe because much of the early rock rhythms originate in Cuba? (Rockabilly is the same rythm as the Habanera)
It does make you notice that while rock was in it's infancy, there was some wonderfully diverse music with centuries of tradtion 90 miles away.
This is a real sleeper cd, thanks to the horrible marketing.
For the price this is selling, it's a real can't miss.
