LISTEN, DANCE AND ENJOY.......2002-02-09

Sonia Alvarez'review is very misleading. First and most importantly, this is a compilation chosen by Sony not a Willie Colón production. As far as I am concerned, every song on this CD is outstanding.

1. Aerolinea Desamor: is a brilliant metaphor (Heartbreak Airlines) He is leaving on a jumbo jet as he sees the city getting farther and farther through the window. The arrangement has the instruments changing there typical roles. The bass is the lead melody instrument in the intro and solo all through the verses. Gene Perez' bas work is incredible.
2. Aguijon: A funny story about Agijón - the neighborhood thug.
3. Estoy Rezando Por Ti: A tender prayer to a lover penned by Venezuelan Amilcar Boscan. Great swing, great melody, great lyrics.
4. Vida Nocturna: Also by Amilcar Boscan. A torch song of someone who is desperately lonely in the big city.
5. Mi Gran Amor: Defnitely worth the buy the CD for. An afro-waltz with the most beautiful lyrics, that speak of a mature love as they grow old together. Penned by the great Alberto Cortez
6. Colgaditos: Continuing the socio-political work. This song speak about the plight of those left behind "Los Colgaditos". Written by Ricardo Vizuete. The children in the chorus are particualarly touching.
7. Color Americano: About being a new comer to America
8. Divino Maestro: A prayer to The Divine Teacher. That is
so relevant after the 9/11 attack. It is delivered in a typical Puerto Rican maypeyé rythmn in a "Jibaró"style BUT arrange in a truly funky cgart by Bob Franchescini.
9. No: A Salsa protest song. No to the drug dealers, No to the Militarists, No to those who'd let children starve. Yet this chart by Isidro infante really swings.
10. Yo Te Podria Decir: An uptempo love song that is smooth as silk and melodically and lyrically sophisticated.
Again,this is not a Willie Colón album but a compilation put together by SONY. Still the choice of songs is excellent.

Not even a shade of what he was in his Fania years! Yes, I know, times change...but he has lost the dinamism his music had during the Fania yrs. and with Rubén Blades. I was very dissapointed with this record.

This album reminds me of "Periodico de ayer". It is an album that really make you listen to it. TODAY I listen to it 12 TIMES WHILE WASHING my PORSHE 944 AND REALLY , DESPITE OF, HE Is FROM New York, he makes me feel "LATIN" que VIVA CAROLINA, LA TIERRA DE CORTIJO. AND QUE VIVA THE REAL SALSEROS, THE ONES FROM COLOMBIA, VENEZUELA, PANAMA, Puerto Rico "CAPITAL of Salsa music of the world", and of course and a MUST NEW YORK.
