5 out of 5 stars My Latin Feminist Inspiration.......2003-11-09

Whenever I'm presented with the stereotype of the passive Latin woman, either in real life or in the media, I cannot help but think back to the Sunday afternoons of my childhood. In those days, my entire family would gather together and watch "Siempre En Domingo", a Spanish variety show that ran weekly. My fellow girl cousins would all look forward to the appearance of one particular singer - Lupita D'Alessio.

The strength and passion of her interpretations got to the heart of a small bunch of girls, who'd get together to wait for Ms. D'Alessio to sing "Ese Hombre" or "Inocente Pobre Amiga". If we were very lucky, we'd get to hear her sing "Lo Siento Mi Amor". Subsequent to our being raised in this environment, we became second-generation Hispanic women who took no nonsense and knew what we were worth. How wonderful that this compilation is available for our new Sunday get togethers. If you want strong, sensual lyrics with equal interpretation, this is the CD for you.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing - What women should say more often and men listen to.......1999-08-21

Lupita D'alessio brough to the surface what women all over the world, particularly in Mexico have been feeling all the time. Ms. D'alessio was the target of unfair discrimation from all society, including women, because she interpreted in a very special and powerful way what we women have to say, and what men must hear. My respect and admiration to this woman, her songs, and her music.
