Customer Reviews:
Another greatest hits disc..........2001-05-27
Again, the material is outstanding, covering Franco's first five albums: "Franco De Vita" (1984); "Fantasia" (1986); "Al Norte Del Sur" (1988; "Extranjero" (1990); and "En Vivo Marzo 16" (1992). Franco's abilities as a singer and songwriter make him one the most unique talents in Latin music, with his thoughtful lyrics, rich melodies and an uncanny ability to move from rock to pop to jazz to ethnic styles such as salsa and bachata. Some of the older tracks here understandably sound dated, particularly the very '80s-sounding "Ana," with its electronic handclaps, honking saxophone and jerky new-wave beat. But still, with such classics as "Somos Tres," "Te Amo" and "No Basta" here, it's hard to gripe too much.
Of course, there is the point that all these tracks have been released before. No lyrics or liner notes are included. And this is at least the seventh U.S. CD to feature such songs as "Solo Importas Tu" and "Un Buen Perdedor." So, great music, so-so compilation. Still, a good way to hear most of Franco's earlier hits, and the sound quality is excellent.
