Bright, Breezy and Satisfying.......2004-08-29

Red Garland once got the rap that he was a glorified cocktail lounge pianist. Believe me I would have been a regular at any cocktail lounge where he was playing! In truth Red Garland was a great jazz pianist period! Just check out how many of his recordings remain in print after all these years. That tells you a lot! Any of his CDs are worth owning; my favorites include those featuring him in a trio setting with bassists Sam Jones or Paul Chambers and drummers Art Taylor or Charlie Persip. Here he plays with Jones and Persip. Listen to any cut and you will be treated to consistently inventive swinging jazz. Maybe some folks took him for granted because he made it all sound so effortless. Don't take him for granted! Enjoy him!
