Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Happy hours (all her best songs on one cd).......2004-05-11

I discovered and met Clementine several years ago, while she was promoting her cds in Spain. In case you don't know her, she is a cute Parisian who grew up in Mexico and now spends a lot of time going to Japan, where she is very popular.

In an effort to make her music accessible to everyone in Europe, the Spanish record label Enfasis got her best tracks on this cd. That way, you don't have to try several records before deciding if you like her or not. The odds are that if you don't like this cd, Clementine is not for you.

Clementine happens to remind me a lot Francoise Hardy (although she doesn't totally agree with that) in her singing. Fresh, spontaneous in many occasions, but very "Francais" too. The cd starts off with her version of "a man and a woman" (remember the film ?). You will also find her own personal vision of the Stevie Wonder "My cherie amour", and "The lady wants to know" from another big favourrite of the seventies-eighties, Michael Franks.
This album has in fact a little bit for everyone because some of the songs are in English, others are in French, and you will even find something in Portuguese, but I will leave that surprise for you to discover...

Clementine has worked with two genuises of the music industry, namely Eumir Deodato and Jean Paul Maulnick (Incognito), so if you like these talents, you need to get your hands on this album. To me, the best song is "Les alchimistes", a tribute to some of the great personalities who in their way have influenced Clementine.

Overall a very pleasant album that will remind you of Paris, but will also take you on a trip, not only geographically but also in time. Get it if you are an admirer of the people I have mentioned above and want to hear something "different".
