Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A tour de force for jazz enthusiasts -- and Disney Record fans!.......2007-01-23

What a treat to discover that one of Camarata's most acclaimed compositions is the title of an outstanding big band disc by musician/bandleader Louise Baranger, who counts Tutti as one of her mentors. Adding to the Disney connection is Baranger's experience as a member of the Disneyland Big Band. (You can find out more about her amazing career at [...].)

Written for the landmark Disneyland LP Tutti's Trumpets, the original "Trumpeter's Prayer" was created to showcase the legendary Conrad Gozzo. On the new version, the arrangement--by Tommy Newsome of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson--allows the string section to carry the melody for a emotional surge. It almost sounds like a classic movie theme. Another selection reprised from Tutti's Trumpets is "Boy Meets Horn" (though not written for that LP), of course, revised as "Girl Meets Horn."

Born in Hollywood, Baranger played with the best in the business, and enlisted some of them for this album, including trumpet virtuoso Arturo Sandoval. Impressive vocals are performed wonderfully by Gisele Jackson and Frank Sinatra, Jr. Even TV pioneer and prolific composer Steve Allen introduces one of his own songs.

This album is a tour de force for the Baranger band, running the full gamut of musical styles and moods. It's not just swing and sway, but rock, R&B and even a touch of classical.

5 out of 5 stars What a Gem! A Must for your jazz collection........2001-02-21

Tight, swinging and sizzling. That's the overwhelming first impression of this terrific CD. Louise's mastery of her horn is quite evident through her solo work and when she leads her band on this journey in musical excellence.

You'll love her choice of charts, the arrangements, and the execution.

Buy two and give one to a friend!

5 out of 5 stars Big Band with great guests including Frank Sinatra Jr........1998-08-10

If you like big band style music with a "punch", you'll love this cd. I picked up the disc for a few reasons: 1) curiosity (the cd seemed to stick out) 2) a great quote from Mel Torme on the front ..."a fantastic band" - that definitely sparked my interest 3) great guests including Frank Sinatra Jr., Arturo Sandoval, Tom Kubis (tonight show band), Gisele Jackson (wow, can she sing)...and a really neat spoken intro and piano "appetizer" from none other than Steve Allen...

This is a great cd - Highly listenable for any age...I'm middle aged...my kids enjoy it...my parents love it.

Cheers to the record company who released it (Summit)- I can't wait to listen to more of their recordings.

I strongly suggest this cd - I haven't taken it out of my player.

a jazz and big band fan
