Earnest though sometimes excessive, undervalued quaint little nu-jazz breakthrough.......2007-03-16

Impressive, brilliantly fused drum-and-bass electronica and experimental jazz band make this smaller known, but equally worthy re-release a worthy find despite the small amount of tracks and a tendency to dabble a little too loosely for the collectives' remarkable chemistry. The few intensely focused tracks, effortlessly mixing fusion era Miles with modern-day artsy attacks, outweighs any overambitious musical ideas darting in and out of the few remaining, sometimes grand compositions. Certainly not your ideal starting point with the band, but for those few unpretentious gatherings of creative thrust ala track 1, Magazine serves as the perfect welcoming to a bold new meeting of the musical minds.

If you like Jaga Jazzist, get this album, it's worth the first track alone. Excellent.

This edition of Magazine is a reissue of their 1998 album...Magazine.

Magazine is much more focused around live performance then dabling with synths. I like both sides of Jaga Jazzist, they pull off each very well, but this is truly excellent.
