Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Smokin In The Pit is indeed smokin'!.......1999-12-01

This is one of my all-time favorite CDs. It is featuring five brilliant musicians - Michael Brecker, Mike Mainieri, Don Grolnik, Eddie Gomez, Steve Gadd (and Kazumi Watanabe on one track) - who deliver steaming performances throughout the entire CD. There is not a single disappointing track on this recording, and you can hear that in the reaction of the audience after each solo and track. The band delivers powerful fusion jazz in a basically acoustic setting, with great soli by all the musicians. If I had to pick the highlights in this exceptional recording I would choose 'Not Ethopia' for its relentless power and momentum, and the always beautiful 'Sara's Touch', which features a Brecker solo that builds up like a tornado from a quiet summer afternoon. All in all, one smokin' live fusion album!
