Customer Reviews:
One of the best in the boogaloo category.......2005-12-31
This alligator thing is damn good believe me. It is surely among the best boogaloo albums that's for sure. If you think to have Lou with George Benson (who was already a player you have to pay attention to) and Lonnie Smith in a single room, well I think there's enough for buying this one (on some tunes you also will have a cornet player, Melvin Lastie). But if this thing ain't enough I can tell you that I own all Donaldson albums and that in the organ setting this is among the best he recorded. Another plus is the recording which is reference grade. Absolutly fine separation of the instruments, wide stage, nice tones, clarity and naturality all around. PERFECT! I'm listening to this one for the hundred time right now, "I want a little girl" is ending, now George's time to solo. Wow guys, it seems to be there with the guys! Now Lou's again on the theme ... wow guys, what a sound from Lou, what an album! Extremely funny and entertaining! I hve the original cd version that I bought used for few bucks here in Italy. I know that 45 dollars are not a fair price. I agree with the previous reviewer, it's not absolutly "essential", but it's really great and now that I know how great it is, probably I'd spend all that money to have it. And what about the super cool pre-"KillBill" cover? I love this album, absolutly. Wait it has come to the end, I don't even have to think about it, I'll listen it another time! BOOGALOO!
if you can afford it, go for it..........2000-09-05
this is a lovely work. it really has that vintage yet timeless sound that no collection should be without. while it certainly isn't essential, you'll never be complete unless you own. but then again, is it ever possible to be complete?
