Customer Reviews:
Classic Pastorius.......2000-06-19
This CD allows you to see just who did love Jaco, it's filled with tremendous players showing their respect for a fallen Idol. The cream of the bass playing crop handpicked their favorite songs and redid them for all to hear as they do the songs the way they were meant to be heard, in the spirit of joy and the memory of Jaco.
A Worthy Tribute.......2000-06-15
By focusing on songs that were either writen by, associated with or dedicated to Jaco Pastorius, this CD proves itself to be the most comprehensive tribute to the fallen bassist/composer thus far. With a line-up that is a virtual"who's who" of contemporary jazz artists who performed with(Micheal Brecker, Don Alias,Mike Stern, Peter Erskine, Hiram Bullock, etc...)and inspired by(John Patitucci, Mark Egan, Marcus Miller,etc...)Jaco, this program is filled with exciting music from begining to end. Highlights include the opener,an acoustic rendition of Hendrix's Third Stone From The Sun, John Patitucci's melancholy waltz,Fall'n Star, Come On, Come Over, featuring Hiram and Will Lee on vocals, and a brilliant orchestration of Portrait of Tracy by Marcus Miller. Definatly worth the inflated price tag.
