High-energy Happy Music.......2001-02-01

Bozo Allegro is a 9-piece horn band -- a sort of Jazz-funk-rock-latin Fusion band -- that plays here in the Twin Cities. This album is all original music by Mr. Bozo himself, Mark Browning Milner. One thing I like about it is that it doesn't sound like anybody else. Milner says that his main influences are the Beatles, Frank Zappa, and Carla Bley. Does it sound like the Beatles? No, it sounds like instrumental jazz -- no lyrics, longer tunes. Does it sound like Mr. Zappa? Well, I don't think so (but then I don't like Mr Zappa that much; you might see some resemblances to his instrumental jazzy stuff like "Blessed Relief") Does it sound like Ms. Bley? No, it's too much rock, too much Funky Horns. I think it sounds a lot like Bozo allegro, and I like it.
