Customer Reviews:
A true Jazz Outing.......2003-01-28
Using Cole Porter as a starting point is a smart move for Jazz musicians who have the chops to back it up and Dial and Oatts do.
This is a true Jazz album. Yes, the songs are by Cole Porter, but they treat his songs the way Coleman Hawkins treated Body & Soul. The songs are a structure to present improvisational ideas. I think Dick Oatts is a competant player and has a great tone. However, Garry Dial is the treat here. He is a great player. How the public has missed him is beyond me.
If you want songs you already know as a way to get into strait ahead Jazz, buy this record. You'll see what it's about.
