Jon Ballantyne made his 3rd recording as a leader for Montreal-based Justin Time Records with this album (after "Skydance" and "A musing"). This time he finds himself in a traditional piano trio. Despite the presence of such standards as "Ornithology" (Parker), "I fall in love too easily" (Styne) and "Monk's mood" (by you-know-who), there is nothing old-fashioned in the way the trio plays. 5 Ballantyne originals are again perfectly legitimate in their own right, and bassist Drew Gress and drummer Billy Hart join Ballantyne in a very contemporary, very firey and very entertaining jazz trip. All in all, this album constitutes another convincing step in Ballantyne's career.
