3 out of 5 stars Kenny G...Short And Sweet!!!.......2006-04-21

I remember first hearing some of these songs on the radio when I was in Tucson,AZ. This is one of his lesser known CD's, but actually has some good tracks on it. The song starts out with a lively version of a song called Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. I actually like this and the next two. Here We Are... is one of my all time favorite songs by Kenny. He utilizes the vocals of a singer that is little known, but sings quite well. His name is Greg Walker. Stop and Go is another up tempo song. The remake of the Eagles song I Can't Tell You Why is okay, but not one of the highlights on this CD. The Shuffle.. is another lively song that I enjoy very much! Tell Me features Kenny G on the flute. This kind of reminds me of the stuff that Nelson Rangell does. Not bad! Find A Way.. is a slower song, with sax in the beginning that sounds a lot like Grover Washington Jr. (one of my favorite sax players, but that's another story) Crystal Mountain... is just a .36 second song that is hardly worth mentioning. The final cut is Come Close...it's short and sweet. That about sums up this CD by Kenny G. It is short and sweet!!!! It also has good production work on it by jazz keyboard player and producer Jeff Lorber.

5 out of 5 stars Kenny's first.......2004-11-02

Kenny G's first cd is a strong debut.. Very good instrumental covers of 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy' and 'I Can't tell You Why', way before they started calling what Kenny, Jeff Lorber, George Howard, Grover Washington Jr..& many others 'Smooth Jazz' Kenny's early efforts had a more R&B groove and harder sound that he would stay with for the next two projects.

5 out of 5 stars Great Start!.......2004-06-15

Kenny G's debut finds him very much in the shadow of his ex
leader Jeff Lorber, who produces and plays synthesizers and keyboards on some of these songs. The upbeat "Shuffle" is not
only self-explanatory as to it's sound but is exactly the kind of song Kenny and Jeff used to write together back in the Jeff Lorber Fusion daze!He opens the album with an update of Cannonball Adderly's soul-jazz classic "Mercy,Mercy,Mercy"-an attempt to showcase Kenny G's apparent 'link' to jazz. But uptempo R&B seems to be the order of the day here and fans of this album are encouraged to seek out Jeff Lorber's very similarly styled 'It's A Fact' CD from the same vintage. It's available as an import CD and for fans of this type of music goes well with this!

3 out of 5 stars Not his best, but great to listen to.......2003-01-02

Although Kenny G had not perfected his sound yet, some of the songs on this album are fun to listen to ("Tell Me", "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", and "The Shuffle"). He also does a great rendition of The Eagles' "I Can't Tell You Why." If you like this, I recommend you check out Kenny G's albums "G-Force" and "Duotones."
