5 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Glenn Miller.......2007-03-11

This recording is the perfect introduction to the big band music of Glenn Miller (and actually was, for me). The recording was made in 1954, after the success of the movie, "The Glenn Miller Story." In response to the renewed popularity generated by the movie, his original band reunited for a sold-out concert in Los Angeles and performed spirited renditions of his big hits. You can't go wrong with this.

5 out of 5 stars A reunion to remember always!.......2005-10-15

Glenn Miller was one of the most popular of all bandleaders during the late 1930's and 1940's. After his death, he became a legendary figure. This particular concert comes from shortly after the premiere showing of "The Glenn Miller Story." Many of Glenn's men from both the civilian and AAF bands are all on stage playing under Billy May's knowing baton. For me, hearing the first public playing of Henry Mancini's "Too Little Time" sums up what we feel about Glenn Miller the artist: the sense of a very real loss to the world of music. Yet it's the hits that recall how much the man became a part of the fabric life of a golden era. "In the Mood," String of Pearls,"..they are all here and so is Glenn in spirit. Glenn Miller was a special man and this CD very aptly proves just what the world lost. May his music be played forever!

5 out of 5 stars Glenn Miller swings!.......2000-07-24

These are the songs of the big band forties at their best! As a musician, I am enthralled by the talent of the people who play these songs! My personal favorite is "In The Mood". It has an awesome trumpet part and just makes you want to get up and dance. If you are at all interested in swing music, this is a great CD to get!
