Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Can't Believe 1 Star.......2003-07-30

Who ever gave this fantastic CD a 1 Star must have been the one drunk! I'm an old hand Kenton fan - from '48 at the Playmor in KC, MO - not musically technical, but cuts 1, 2 & 14 are some of the "wildest" stuff you can hear - Quinn Davis on #1 and Ray Brown on #2 - it doesn't get any better! And the close-out Artistry is one of the best ever.

1 out of 5 stars recording balanced by engineers who were drunk.......1999-07-31

This appears to be yet another bootleg...the source being a purloined tape from NBC radio who broadcast portions of the 1972 Newport in NY Festival. The liner notes admit balancing problems. What you need to know in advance of your purchase is, there are many sections of the cd where, for instance, you hear the saxophone section and the bass...nothing else! Weird. Jerry McKenzie cymbals sound like constant "sssssssssss" all through the cd. Shirley Luster, aka June Christy, reunited for several songs. Miss Christy, ahem, could not have been in worst form. Summing up, almost unlistenable! Wish someone would have written this review before me. I coulda bought something else. Terry Armstrong, longtime Kenton Phnatic.
