Customer Reviews:
One of many outstanding Wayne Shorter albums!.......2005-01-30
Wayne's second Blue Note album JUJU is an impressive quartet session, with the same lineup as NIGHT DREAMER except that Lee Morgan is not present. Shorter's compositions are among his most consistently memorable, and he shows an uncanny ability to experiment with song forms (e.g., "Mahjong") that nonetheless remain challenging blowing vehicles for the soloists. Wayne's tunes also include the title cut, "Deluge," "House Of Jade," "Yes Or No," and another blues "Twelve More Bars To Go." Taken together they offer a varied program with no letdowns, and as expected highlight Shorter's brilliant reed playing. This and several other Shorter albums of the period compare perhaps more favorably than any other to the landmark 1965-1968 Miles Davis quintet albums in which Shorter was a key member.
