Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A sophisticated listening experience with an easy manner.......2002-05-28

The legendary Ozzie Nelson had a natural gift for music. When he was fourteen. He and his friend were paid the amount of five dollars to play for the woman's club in town. Soon they were commanding the exorbitant amount of ten dollars each night. At the age of fourteen Ozzie had attended a band concert at the Oritani Field and had dreamed of one day becoming a member of that talented group of singers. A few years later his prophecy came true. He studied hard earning perfect grades, playing football, boxing, LaCrosse, basketball, and leading his band. the turning point came after graduating from Rutgers Law School. When Ozzie had to decide whether become a lawyer? Or continue with his band, which made him very happy. The latter was what Ozzie wanted to do. Ozzie and his band traveled playing some of the most pretigious places for fourteen years. Along the way he met his future wife one evening at the Grand Ballroom of the Edison Hotel on New Years' Eve 1931 as she was introducing various bands. It was love at first sight for Ozzie whom was struck by her poise and charm. They barely spoke that evening. And, met nearly a year later. He invited her to be part of his band. Harriet had some trepidation, as she was earning more than he was. Except, a friend prophectically told her to try it for the summer, because she felt Ozzie would go far. In this intelligent and charming album the listener can feel the harmonious rhyme.
To read more about this geniune man, read his memoir published two years before he died of cancer of the liver entitled simply: Ozzie. He was exceptional. And, left an extraordinary legacy. His grandson, Sam, whom graduated from Boston College three years ago with a degree in physchlogy and spanish decided, just like his late grandfather did when he graduated, to become a musician. Sam had completed one album himself. And, this spring released his second album, "Be Silent and Know" with his own band titled: "H.Is Orange." And, is traveling to solidified his music career. Ozzie's grandson's music might be of different caliber, yet still he has inherited the his fantastic sense of rhythm.
